Welcome back Everyone! Its about time for our next Mega Voxel Jam! Since the last time we held our annual voxel jam we have added over 30,000 followers to our Instagram and have reached 35,000 visitors a month on our website! This is exciting news as the world of voxels is becoming more popular than ever. As always our main goal was to create a community where everyone can experience the fun of working with voxels and show off their work with the rest of the world no matter where you are. Artists, creators and developers will once again get this opportunity through our Mega Voxel Jam competition. We’ve been working extra hard to create a jam where voxel artists of all levels get a chance to show off some of the great creations they make!
This time around we decided to build off some of the ideas that worked last year. Based on feedback we received from the community, there will once again be 3 separate challenges that you can participate in again this year like last year.
Mega Voxel Jam Schedule
- Mega Voxel Jam 2021 starts and accepts submissions between September 13th – September 23rd
- Voting begins and continues from September 24 – September 29
- Winners will be announced September 30
Mega Voxel Jam Challenges
This year’s jam will once again consist of 3 separate challenges that you can enter. You can participate in one or all three of the challenges! However you can only submit one submission for each. We feel really good about this years lineup so read on to see what challenges you would like to participate in.
Challenge #1: Tiny Challenge
The Tiny Challenge is back due to popular demand! In this challenge we wanted creators to really emphasize every voxel that went into their piece by limiting the size that they have to work with. This makes every voxel count! Creators are free to make anything they want, but the creation itself must stay within 32x32x32 dimensions. We are super stoked about this one because many of the most liked creations featured on Mega Voxels are under 32x32x32.
- Challenge: Tiny Challenge
- Theme: None, Free to Choose
- Challenge Constraints: Single model no bigger than 32x32x32 or Multiple models combined no bigger than 32x32x32 total.
- Eligible Voxel Software: MagicaVoxel, Mega Voxels Play, VoxEdit, Qubicle, Avoyd or Goxel
- Tips: The main idea of this challenge is to recreate something tiny, so if you want to get the best possible score, don’t just make something to fit the requirement, actually make it “look” tiny.
Challenge #2: Turntable!
So this challenge is one we’ve been looking forward to because we started seeing more and more video clips of voxel creations. In this challenge you are free to create whatever you like as well, the only catch is you must make a turntable video clip of your voxel creation. We have had a lot of positive feedback from voxel creators especially using MagicaVoxel turntable export as well as the 360 video angle from Mega Voxels Play!
- Challenge: Turntable! Challenge
- Theme: None, Free to Choose
- Challenge Constraints: A 360 turntable video clip of your voxel model
- Eligible Voxel Software: MagicaVoxel or Mega Voxels Play
- Tips: We recommend using tools like MagicaVoxel turntable export or the video recording option in Mega Voxels Play to create the turntable video clips of your creation.
Challenge #3: Architects
We believe that every voxel creator deep down is actually in fact an architect as well! Whether you’re in MagicaVoxel, Mega Voxels Play, Qubicle, VoxEdit, or even Minecraft bring out the inner architect to show off how anything can be made with voxel blocks. So for this challenge we invite you to share your architectural masterpiece with thousands of others. There is no model or size limit. We are also inviting our Minecraft creators to join on this challenge. We are excited to see what you create!
- Challenge: Architects
- Theme: Artwork Should Represent Architecture of some kind
- Requirements: No size or model limit, however must be a single scene
- Required software: MagicaVoxel, Mega Voxels Play, Minecraft, VoxEdit, Qubicle, Avoyd or Goxel
- Tips: If you are using MagicaVoxel and want to make a bigger scene, check out our tutorial How to Increase the Maximum Size in MagicaVoxel. Also you can perform this using our app Mega Voxels Play by viewing this tutorial How to Increase the Maximum Size in Mega Voxels Play.
Mega Voxel Jam Awards
Each challenge will have 4 winners: First, Second, Third and Editor’s Choice. The winners will be voted on by the community and be monitored by the Mega Voxels Team. The Editor’s Choice award will be selected by the Mega Voxels Team. After the time limit is up we will use a voting system similar to last years, which is a combination of likes, comments and shares. The point structure will work as follows:
- 1 Like = 1 Point

- 1 👍 Comment = 5 Points
